He shook--hard, as if his body was finally surrendering to some enormous stress that it had borne with difficulty for many, many years. Something he’d tried not to think about but had struggled to suppress. A great sorrow, some terror that had eaten away at him, probably predicating his life and motivating those acts of his that were less than heroic.
Remus slid his arms around Severus tightly in a blind attempt to calm, assuage and chase the nightmare from his lover’s mind. Severus buried his head in the crook of Remus’ shoulder, and he felt moisture tickle tellingly against his skin. For several minutes, Remus simply held Severus tightly, stroking his back until the trembling finally subsided.
Severus shook himself as visions of his dream faded. He always felt silly every time he awoke his lover over such nonsense, but Remus never seemed to mind.
